Plywood Lamination Process
Manufacturers use pressing machines to produce laminate-covered plywood. The lamination process involves heat, pressure, and adhesion to bond various sheets together. Preparing laminated plywood this way allows for a lasting, damage-resistant design that can be used in various settings.
There are several types of laminated plywood:
- High-Pressure Laminated Plywood. Decorative paper sheets are heat-sealed and attached to the plywood using high pressure. The plywood can tolerate heavyweight applications, featuring extreme strength and durability.
- Low-Pressure Laminated Plywood. This type of plywood is known as a melamine or pre-finished board. It is also heat-sealed and features a thin sheet glued directly to the medium-density fiberboard (MDF) panel. Adhesion is not required, and the material has less anti-bacterial and fire-resistant properties than other plywood.

Film-Faced Laminate Plywood
Film-faced plywood features a film coating on the wood’s surface which makes it more resistant to abrasion, moisture, and fungal attacks. The high-quality plywood coating consists of treated resin paper that transforms into a protective film during manufacturing. The edges are factory-sealed using an acrylic sealant to keep moisture out.
Film-faced plywood is a durable exterior solution for building, automotive, and construction applications. It is stronger than ordinary plywood, easier to work with, and easier to mount. The plywood is also easy to color, making it ideal for children’s furniture and outdoor playground equipment.
There are two main variations of film-faced laminate plywood:

- Film/Wire (F/W): The plywood is smooth on one side and has a wire mesh surface on the other. It has the same moisture-resistant and strength properties as F/F film-faced plywood but features the added benefit of non-slip capabilities.
- Hexa Design Phenolic Film: The plywood is coated on both sides with a high-density paper film for impressive anti-slip protection. This makes for excellent decorative flooring whether being used with stages, terraces, or sports facilities.
Melamine-Coated Laminate Plywood
This type of plywood is similar to particle board but built to be much stronger. The plywood is covered with melamine, a formaldehyde combined with a thermosetting plastic resin that hardens when heated. The melamine coating creates a smooth and sleek surface finish. This plywood is also highly resistant to stains, heat, and moisture.
